Recipe Meatballs with green chillies from of 13-07-2007 [Updated on 28-08-2018]
This recipe was given to my father-in-law by a butcher from a town near Avellino, mouth-watering;)
Many call these delicious chillies "frigitelli" or friggitelli or friarelli. In Naples, however, everyone knows them as green chillies, boh: D
I now make it very often as a single dish: main course and side dish together.
How to make meatballs with green chillies
Soften the slices of bread in the milk.
Put the minced meat, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, pepper and slices of bread, squeezed out of the milk and reduced to crumbs in a bowl.
Stir until you get a well blended mixture. Form this mixture into balls the size of a walnut, helping yourself with your slightly damp hands.
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the meatballs.
Lift them just cooked and place them on an absorbent cloth.
Wash the green chillies, cut them lengthwise and remove the seeds and the stem. Fry them with a clove of garlic in the same oil as the meatballs.
When almost cooked, add the chopped tomatoes and basil to the green chillies, season with salt.
Reduce the sauce a little and add the meatballs
Cook for a couple of minutes in order to flavor everything.
All that remains is to serve the meatballs with green chillies, accompanying the dish with a lot of bread ... because there is a nice little shoe to do in the sauce;)
I dedicate this recipe to Matteo and Elisa;)
