Maritozzi con la panna are a typical dessert of Lazio cuisine, they are sweet rolls enriched with honey and raisins. They are sold in bars in Rome usually for breakfast by cutting them lengthwise and stuffing them with whipped cream or, for the sweet tooth, jam, cream or Nutella! It seems that the husbandzzi recipe dates back even to the times of ancient Rome. In fact, it seems that his name derives from the custom according to which the future husband offered this delicious cake as a gift to his girlfriend, sometimes inserting the engagement ring inside it: the girl then began to call her future husband with a term of endearment. , in fact, of "Maritozzo". This is the recipe that I followed, I chose to add raisins (there were those who claimed that it was essential and those who said not to put it, someone also added pine nuts), I followed the traditional filling with whipped cream and I found them really delicious. So I leave you to the recipe and I wish you a sweet day: *
Put the flour in a bowl and pour the yeast and honey dissolved in a little warm milk taken from the total in the center. Start kneading.
Add oil, egg, sugar, salt, the remaining milk and the grated lemon peel and knead until a homogeneous dough is obtained.
Also add the raisins previously soaked in hot water (you can also add a little rum, if you like) and gently squeezed, and distribute it evenly.
Knead until you get a smooth dough, then form a ball. Cover the dough with a cloth and put it in the oven off.
Let it rise for about 3 hours or until doubled.
Divide the dough into 9 loaves of 70-80 g each and round them to form balls.
Shape them into an oval shape and arrange them on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper, a little distant from each other. Let rise for at least 1 hour or until doubled.
Lightly beat an egg yolk with a drop of milk and brush the husks.
Then cook them for about 15-18 minutes at 180 ° C in a preheated convection oven.
In the meantime, prepare a syrup by boiling the water and sugar for a few minutes, once the Maritozzi are taken out of the oven, brush them still hot with the syrup obtained.
Let it cool, then make a deep cut (leaving the base intact) lengthwise.
Fill the cut with whipped cream and serve your husbands with the cream.
